How to Refinish a Bathtub
An easy way to update a bathroom and add immediate aesthetic change is with a bathtub/shower update! A quick & simple DIY it refinishing Kit for bathtubs can be found at Home Depot — the best part? You can do this yourself for $90!
The process is simple and the kit contains everything you could possibly need - from the tub cleaning scrub to the sanding paper and epoxy.
I was hesitant that the kit required a “paint on” application with a paint roller because I didn’t want there to be painting streaks… but since the refinishing material is epoxy, it' is denser than paint and settles and evens out after application, resulting in NO paint roller streaks!
*Because this is a hardener, the surface of the tub will be slick. You will definitely need a shower mat if there is no grooves or grips engrained in the tub.
Here’s a quick overview of the process:
Sand away all impurities (10 min)
Clean the tub with soap (2 min)
Completely dry the tub (5 min)
Mix the paint + hardener (5 min)
Tape off edges of the Tub (2 min)
Paint the tub (20 min)
Done in 45 Minutes! *Remove the painters tape 45 minutes after finishing the tub painting
Wait 24 hours for the epoxy hardener to cure
Highly recommend this Kit!
